2022 Program

Dear Bruins and Friends,

Hello! On behalf of the UCLA Alumni Association and Student Alumni Association, it is an absolute thrill (and relief!) to welcome you to Spring Sing 2022, back in live format after two years! This show is a culmination of time, passion, hard work and flexibility from over 160 student cast and crew members – and though we’re all a bit tired of the word “resilience” at this point in time, it is just that that has brought us all here today. We are incredibly grateful for the relentless spirit of student creatives at this school and the passion of those continuously working behind the scenes to bring their visions to life. Thank you to the Spring Sing Executive Committees, cast and crew of 2020 and 2021 for keeping this celebration of student art and expression alive and well in a time when we needed it most. We have certainly learned over the past two years that community grounds us and gets us through moments and periods of uncertainty and change. And there is nothing more powerful than artistic expression and creativity to buoy the spirit and fuel a sense of belonging. It is our sincere hope that Spring Sing 2022 brings you joy and the embrace of our special community right here at UCLA!

Thank you for sharing the evening with us. Enjoy the show!

Special acknowledgement to Bo Kaplan (@bodrazen) for his performance

Bo Kaplan was born deaf, but as a child, he always had an affinity for music and would sign his heart out to lyrics by a range of artists. In the last few years, Kaplan has found joy in performing by interpreting music in ASL (American Sign Language). He moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of showing people that music is universal, transcending race, gender or disability. He is currently a graduate student in social science with a concentration in entertainment and media. After graduation in June, Kaplan will become a consumer insights analyst in the entertainment industry. If you enjoy music translations in ASL, you can find him on his socials, @bodrazen.

2020 and 2021 – Spring Sing Committees, Talent, Company and Production Teams.
You kept our Spring Sing tradition alive during some very difficult years, and truly helped create and foster a real sense of community while we were all apart.

Here at UCLA (we Spring Sing Committee, UCLA SAA, UCLA AISA) acknowledge the Gabrielino peoples as the traditional inhabitants and land caretakers of the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands. As a land grant institution, we pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.
AMERICAN — INDIAN STUDENT ASSOCIATION

The UCLA American Indian Student Association AISA is a safe space where students come together and work collectively in an effort to promote education and interest in American Indian culture. We work as a community to dispel any misconceptions regarding the art, language, history, and lives of American Indians. Each person represents their respective nation and is encouraged to express and share their culture. It is the diverse backgrounds that strengthen our group, as each student brings with them a talent or perspective that benefits the American Indian community. We are not just a club, but a community. Within our organization, we have developed student-initiated and student-run outreach and retention projects, American Indian Recruitment (AIR) and Retention of American Indians Now! (RAIN!), both housed under the Community Programs Office in the Student Activities Center. Both of these projects are geared toward the success of Native people achieving higher education. AISA also hosts the Annual Native American Heritage Week, the Annual American Indian Youth Conference/Basketball Tournament, and the Annual UCLA PowWow.
