Overview

pin Lima, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Lake Titicaca

A land of treasures archaeological, cultural, and natural, Peru draws those eager to learn about the distant past – and encounter a fascinating present of colonial and indigenous influences.  As your small group limited to 24 travelers takes in some of the country’s highlights – Cuzco, Machu Picchu, and Lake Titicaca – marvel at this intriguing land’s riches.  The 11-day Peruvian adventure begins in the capital with touring of Lima’s colonial and modern attractions, including treasured 16th-century Casa Aliaga, one of Lima’s oldest homes; and Larco Herrera Museum’s unparalleled ceramics collection.  In historic Cuzco, visit the sacred sites of Koricancha and Santo Domingo.  Continuing on to the beautiful Sacred Valley, experience Peru’s rich cultural heritage at Pisac’s colorful Indian market and Ollantaytambo’s massive ruins, and in indigenous villages.  After a scenic train ride to Machu Picchu – the stunning “Lost City of the Incas” and a UNESCO site – encounter the enigmatic ruins on two guided tours.  Overnight at a nearby hotel and enjoy prime viewing opportunities before the crowds arrive.  Upon returning to Cuzco, further discovery of this UNESCO site includes Sacsayhuamán’s impressive ruins with time afterwards to wander Cuzco's beautiful and historic streets.  Traveling on through Peru’s dramatic altiplano with its snowcapped mountains, reach Lake Titicaca, one of the world’s highest navigable lakes.  Spend a day exploring the lake’s fascinating life, riding a boat to the Uros people’s floating reed islands, and Isla Taquile, known for superb textiles.  Discover the Amazon rainforest’s amazing flora, fauna, and villages on an optional 4-day/4-night post-tour extension.
