UCLA sophomore Jane Park wowed spectators this summer and grabbed the national spotlight with an impressive effort in the U.S. Women’s Open golf tournament. Though she eventually finished 10th, Park was in the spotlight again a few weeks later when she led the U.S. team’s trouncing of the British women in the biennial Curtis Cup competition.

In July, Park announced that she would go professional after competing in the U.S. Women’s amateur tournament in August.

Park was the second Bruin woman to move to the pros recently. Junior Amy Cochran went professional early in July. Both have had five top-10 finishes last season. Park was tied for the lead on the team in scoring average with 73.1 strokes, whereas Cochran boasted a 73.3 scoring average.

In her official UCLA Athletics biography, Park lists winning the 104th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in 2004 as her career thrill. She admires the play of Tiger Woods and Retief Goosen, and says computers, basketball and piano are her favorite hobbies outside of golfing.
