When Brodea Most Drogin '38, having graduated from Belmont High School in Los Angeles, began her Bruin experience on the still-new Westwood campus, she had no idea she was setting a precedent as the matriarch of a multi-generational UCLA family. She earned her bachelor's degree in education, earning a Standard Life credential, loved learning about the humanities and found her experience at UCLA to be one of incredible growth.

Later, after marrying her high school sweetheart, and raising four boys (who had 19 children among them), she returned to Cal State Los Angeles to earn a master's degree in speech pathology. She was a supporter of public education, taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for many years and then became a speech therapist for the district.

Prompted by outreach from the UCLA College of Letters & Science, which sought reminiscences from Bruins of all ages, her son Glen wrote, "Brodea Most Drogin was a grandmother whose joy of learning was fostered in the lives of all her grandchildren. Our family legacy is for the fourth generation to have equitable access to an excellent education at UCLA.
Our hopes are that more students who should be eligible to attend will be accepted, and that the housing shortage in West L.A. will be resolved so that attending the University will not have so many difficulties."

These sentiments reflect a wish for the community that continues to be lived by Brodea Drogin's descendants and extended family: Glen's brother Mark attended ULCA; Glen's daughter Kelly Drogin McCord '91 earned her degree in psychology and is a licensed clinical social worker in La Canada; Kelly's husband Joe McCord ’94 received his B.S. in astrophysics. Their daughter, Kaylee McCord ’21, earned her bachelor's degree in physiological science and is beginning her third year of medical school at Boston University. She rowed varsity crew during her freshman year.

Glen and wife Lorrie's younger daughter, Leanne Drogin '93, majored in sociology with concentrations in deviant behavior and racial and ethnic stratification. She played water polo for UCLA at state and national events before it was part of the NCAA, when, according to Lorrie, "players had to pay to play." Leanne works for Los Angeles County as deputy director of the Office for the Advancement of Early Care and Education.
