Born in Ecuador to a father who was a surgeon and a mother who was an anesthesiologist, Agustín moved with his family to the Southern California when he was a child and for years was unaware of his undocumented status. When he eventually found out, as described in the L.A. Times article, "He coped by burying his identity. 'I decided I’d be the most popular kid in school,' Agustín says. 'I became class president and prom king and a top 10 student so no one would ever suspect the truth about me.'”

Today he is CEO of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, where he once volunteered, and executive director of its Youth Cinema Project.
