Dr. Amit Pandey '12, a hospital medicine physician with SRS medical group in San Diego, California, and chief of hospital medicine at Sharp Memorial Hospital, has published a new book, "The Premed Paradox: What You Need to Know About the Life of a Physician."

"This has been a passion project over the last few years and I am excited to bring it to the world now," Pandey said.

The book is a comprehensive and in-depth look at a physician's life experience, from premed through medical school and training, and then to career practice. It is geared toward premeds or those considering a career in medicine, but is also meant for anyone interested in learning about the life of a doctor or even those on the path/in practice who want to reminisce with stories of the past.

"I found that in my experience, premeds/trainees are often focused on the proximate goal of med school acceptance, exam scores, etc. but lose sight of the big picture: the actual life experience of a physician," Pandey said. "I want to empower the next generation of physicians with this knowledge and perspective so they can be better prepared for the career if they do choose to pursue it. I also want to bring a better understanding of physician life and experience to the general public or loved ones of physicians."

Pandey, who earned his B.A. in biology, discussed his career and the book with Dr. Kevin Jubbal, founder of Med School Insiders.
