Alumni BandThe UCLA Alumni Band is the recipient of the 2022 UCLA Award for Network of the Year for its commitment to celebrating the UCLA spirit. Over nearly 40 years, the Alumni Band has involved generations of Bruins in spreading joy and building community. Formed in 1976 with the support of the UCLA Athletics Department, the network is family-friendly and open to any and all UCLA alumni who play a band instrument.

The Network gives their time and talent to support and cheer on Bruin athletes and entertain Bruins. To extend their commitment to the university the Network has endowed The UCLA Alumni Band Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of William A. Rhan ’73, M.S.W. ’75. The Scholarship is given each year to at least two deserving seniors who have demonstrated engagement in the UCLA Marching Band and have applied for the True Bruin Distinguished Senior Award, a prestigious scholarship awarded to highly meritorious students who exemplify the True Bruin values of integrity, excellence, accountability, respect and service.

The Alumni Band performs for Rose Bowl tailgaters at home games, in the Rose Bowl Court of Champions and at UCLA Women’s Gymnastics meets. Their energetic and exciting song list represents all generations of the UCLA community, from "Strike Up the Band for UCLA," "The Mighty Bruins" and “Sons of Westwood” to arrangements of popular hits, like “Shake It Off.” And of course, they join the UCLA Spirit Squad in a rousing 8-clap. They have brought school spirit to thousands of UCLA alumni at UCLA Athletic events, along with parties, grand openings, groundbreaking ceremonies and events on and off campus. In recent years, they traveled to Shanghai, China to represent UCLA at an international tourism festival.
