Jun Mori ’55
Attorney Jun Mori is “a personification of the consummate public servant,” in the words of the mayor of Los Angeles, Tom Bradley. Mori is currently president of the Board of Harbor Commissioners of the City of Los Angeles, having served as a member of the board since 1977. During Mori’s years with the Harbor Commission, the Port of Los Angeles has grown dramatically, its trade volume making it the preeminent port in the United States. This growth has vastly increased Mori’s responsibility. He has not only accept this increased, but he has also worked hard to ensure port hiring practices that encourage the full participation of ethnic minorities and women at all levels of management, employment and contractor-vendor participation. Mori has served at the national level, as well. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter appointed Mori to his President’s Export Council, which advised the president on the most appropriate manner in which American manufactured goods might be distributed to world markets.
Mori is a proud UCLA alumnus who has given generously in support of the University. He has served on The UCLA Foundation Board of Trustees for the past 12 years. He co-chaired fundraising committees for the James West Alumni center and for an endowed chair in Japanese American studies. Mori helped establish the first UCLA Alumni Club in Japan and now serves on the advisory board for the Asian Pacific Alumni of UCLA. His untiring work with the advisory board has inspired thousands of Asian Pacific alumni to once again become involved with their alma mater.
