Amarilis Acevedo-Cruz '85, M.A. '85, Ph.D. '89Amarilis Acevedo-Cruz '85, M.A. '85, Ph.D. '89, known to family and friends as “Lilly” passed away peacefully and with dignity April 5, 2023, at the age of 63.

Acevedo was a highly regarded Board Certified Neuropsychologist. She settled in South Florida in 1997 and devoted her professional life to the research of dementia and cognitive disorders at the Wien Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach, Florida.

In 2009 Acevedo transitioned to academia, teaching graduate psychology courses and participating as co-investigator on NIH grants at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. She retired from her teaching post in 2020. During her professional career she authored and/or coauthored dozens of scholarly papers, participated in many NIH research grants and presented at several professional conferences.

Acevedo is survived by her husband and companion of 20 years, Les Sternberg, their beloved beagle, Cybella, of Wellington, Florida, sister-in-law Lisa Silidker, also of Wellington, Florida, and family in Puerto Rico and New York.
